L-Tyrosine
(non-essential amino acid)
What is L-Tyrosine?
L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid found in casein. L-Tyrosine is
synthesized from phenylalanine, another amino acid. It is important to the structure of virtually all proteins
in the body. L-Tyrosine is a precursor to neurotransmitters and increases plasma neurotransmitter levels
(especially dopamine and norepinephrine, but L-Dopa and epinephrine as
well). During times of stress, L-Tyrosine converts thyroid hormone to adrenaline. Under chronically
stressed conditions, L-Tyrosine levels can be depleted.
L-Tyrosine is converted by the skin into melanin to help protect it from the
harmful effects of unltraviolet rays.
