What is
L-Tyrosine?
L-Tyrosine is a
non-essential amino acid found in casein. L-Tyrosine is
synthesized from phenylalanine, another amino acid. It is
important to the structure of virtually all proteins in the
body. L-Tyrosine is a precursor to neurotransmitters
and increases plasma neurotransmitter levels (especially
dopamine and norepinephrine, but L-Dopa and epinephrine as
well). During times of stress, L-Tyrosine converts
thyroid hormone to adrenaline. Under chronically stressed
conditions, L-Tyrosine levels can be depleted.
L-Tyrosine is converted by
the skin into melanin to help protect it from the harmful
effects of unltraviolet rays.
