How safe are Energy Drinks?
Study Points to Possible Health Risks
John, July 27, 2008
Have you ever wondered about that jolt of energy you get from those
flashy, increasingly popular health drinks? Now, a recent study has concluded that they may also be
harmful to your health.
A study conducted by
the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit prompted researchers to advise people who have high blood pressure or heart
disease to avoid energy drinks because they could impact their blood pressure or change the effectiveness of their
medications.
"We saw increases in
both blood pressure and heart rate in healthy volunteers who were just sitting in a chair watching movies." said
James Kalus, who led the study.
A report on the
study, published by the international news service Reuters, said the increases in blood pressure and heart rate
could pose significant health risks in people with cardiovascular disease.
That's bad news for
consumers who are saturating an explosive energy drink market, which is expected to hit $10 billion in sales by
2010.
As concerns continue to mount over the potential
health risks associated with consuming energy drinks that are loaded with sugar and caffeine, you'll be happy to
know that there is a healthy alternative. How do you still benefit from an energy drink without
succumbing to these risks? You choose a product that contains no sugar, no caffeine and no carbs.
